It seems that when it comes to games for Windows 8 and the Windows Phone the game is normally playing catch up to iOS and Android. However, Windows 8 and Windows Phone actually do have a lot of exclusive games of their own. So many, in fact, that we decided to make a Top 10 List for exclusive games for Windows 8 and Windows Phone. Take that to mean ten great reasons to get a Windows device instead of an iOS or Android one.
Halo: Spartan Assault
Should come as no surprise that Windows devices are going to get a Halo exclusive or two. Halo: Spartan Assault is the first and is well worth getting either a Windows Phone or loading it up on Windows 8. At its best Halo: Spartan Assault is a perfect bite sized Halo game that you can take with you on the go. In fact, Halo: Spartan Assault is so well done in terms of other Halo titles that you’d be surprised you’re playing it on a tablet or phone. Gameplay is highly addictive and well thought out and the graphics make everything ten times better!
Hydro Thunder Hurricane
For whatever odd reason, hydro racers are insanely popular this year. All devices have the popular title Riptide GP2 but Windows 8 and Windows Phones have something just as good if not better! Hydro Thunder Hurricane is the game I’m talking about. At its foundation, Hydro Thunder Hurricane has everything other popular hydro racers have. But beyond that Hydro Thunder Hurricane can sync with your Xbox Live account for achievements, leader boards, etc. If you like intense racing games of any kind then check out Hydro Thunder Hurricane.
What is better than combining medieval knights with zombies? Nothing is what and that is exactly the crazy mash up that Medieval Apocalypse brings to the table. Gameplay is a fun mix up of hack and slash and RPG elements in a really rich graphical setting. The gameplay is also quick and frantic which really brings that fun element of chaos to the table. If you’re a fan of the hack and slash style then Medieval Apocalypse has definitely got you covered and if you are more a fan of RPGs then Medieval Apocalypse also has you covered! Medieval Apocalypse has a little bit of everything!
Microsoft Solitaire Collection
You may be wondering why is a solitaire collection doing on a top 10 list of any sort. Well, Microsoft Solitaire Collection is actually the #1 app in the Windows Store and are you really surprised? Everyone and their mother (especially their mother) plays Microsoft solitaire games when bored at work or in general. Microsoft Solitaire Collection brings all that to the table with five different solitaire games, daily challenges, great polished graphics and achievements through Xbox Live.
No, The Harvest is not a Harvest Moon or any other farming game simulation but rather an action packed shooter RPG. That combination is what stems The Harvest’s interesting an intense gameplay. The shooting is pretty tap heavy and will have you frantically tapping to shoot all who enter your path. Yet with the RPG elements it is a numbers game essentially and you improve yourself through leveling up and collecting tons of loot. I will say The Harvest doesn’t seem like a mobile game but it is an extremely great one.
Always have to have a nice adventure game on a top 10 list. Adera is that game for Windows 8 and Windows Phone and for good reason. Gameplay of Adera takes form as a hidden object puzzle adventure game with breath taking graphical scenes. The story behind it all is also quite nice and takes place over 5 episodes. Adera focuses mostly on engaging you in interesting puzzles while you watch the story unfold at your own pace. Much different than most of the other games on this list, Adera is definitely an exclusive you’re missing out on unless you have Windows 8 or a Windows Phone.
Skulls of the Shogun
Skulls of the Shogun is another great blend of a game that combines fast paced action with turn-based strategy. While Skulls of the Shogun can be rather fast paced it provides some great interesting twists through the strategy. The main gist of it all is when you defeat an enemy they leave behind their skull which you can eat to regain health. Eat three skulls and your unit transforms into a demon that gets extra moves. As you can see there is a whole secondary level of strategy that Skulls of the Shogun allows. On top of all this is a game that really has some style both in graphics and through the soundtrack. Well worth a download.
An endless runner that is a Windows 8 and Windows Phone exclusive? While that is something you may not expect that is exactly what The Gunstringer is. The original The Gunstringer was born from the Kinect and had you physically moving the character (who happens to be a puppet). Now the game is out for Windows devices and the controls also work well as touch based (or keyboard controlled). What makes The Gunstringer better than most endless runners is that is fully fleshed out with episodes, story and the general craziness you come to expect of the genre.
Another title adapted from an Xbox Live Arcade title comes ilomilo (actually ilomilo plus). ilomilo brings 3D puzzles in a cute package while also being quite the head scratcher. Everything about ilomilo is cute and cuddly but also quite fun to play. You control two characters ilo and milo and the goal is to reunite the two. Easy concept but one that ilomilo takes extreme liberties with. This is a game that you can play with your parents or your younger siblings and is a great exclusive on Windows 8 and Windows Phone.
Taptiles is a similar exclusive game to the Microsoft Solitaire Collection as it is basically another form of solitaire; Majong to be exact. However Taptiles is Majong with a twist…a 3D twist. That is right, you can rotate the puzzle cube to find matches on all sides. Taptiles also features three different modes of play, challenges and great polished graphics. There is no surprise here why Taptiles is a top 10 game for the Microsoft store. If you’re looking for something simple and love solitaire type games, Taptiles is the game for you.
