Shelter is a popular card collecting game that has you fighting the undead in a post-apocalyptic world. While there aren’t many gamers who would particularly enjoy that style of playing, Shelter does bring in its unique style of narrative and gameplay that makes it immensely enjoyable, and if I might say, even addictive.
In case you’ve never played the game before, you engage in a lengthy Campaign mode where the aim is to help the main protagonist battle the undead so that he can eventually be reunited with the love of his life. The entire narrative is tastefully captured in comic book style, which makes it a lot more engaging than the usual fare of cut screen storylines. You build your main deck of 20 cards comprising melee weapons, guns and general supplies and you need to mix and match these cards to deal with different types of zombies.
If you’ve been enjoying the game so far, you’ll be delighted to know that a recent update has added three new features along with making some minor performance fixes. The new features include the addition of difficulty ratings and reward icons to location cards to make it easier for collection; inclusion of a new “Knockback” trait to balance shotguns, and an improved deck builder with multiple player decks.
Another cool thing about the game, (if you haven’t picked it up yet) is that its going for the price of free as part of the myAppFree promotion. Grab it quickly from the Windows Phone Store before the end of the day or else you may have to shell out $1.99 for it later.
